MEP Zdechovský has proposed a resolution condemning the massacre of Christians in Nigeria. The vote will take place on Thursday

Strasbourg - The European Parliament will vote in Thursday's plenary session on a resolution condemning the massacre of Christians at Christmas last year in the Nigerian state of Plateau. Over 200 Christians died in the brutal attack. The resolution was prepared by MEP Tomáš Zdechovský (KDU-ČSL) on behalf of the European People's Party (EPP), who has been for a long time involved in the issue of persecution including of Christians around the world.

The EPP Group will today vote in favour of granting the discharge for the EU Border and Coast Guard Agency Frontex for the year 2020. There is no reason not to grant it. Its finances are in order and a discharge should not be denied for politically-motivated reasons. The EPP Group will continue to support Frontex in its important job to help Member States protect the EU's external border.

Brussels - Twenty-three unique photographs of former President Václav Havel will be exhibited in the European Parliament building until Friday. The exhibition, entitled The President of People's Hearts by Havel's official photographer Jiří Jírů, was launched on Tuesday in Brussels by Czech MEP Tomáš Zdechovský (KDU-ČSL, EPP). The opening ceremony was also attended by the President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola (EPP) and the Ambassador to the European Union Edita Hrdá. The exhibition, which was held on the occasion of the ongoing Czech Presidency, was attended by over 100 guests from among MEPs, diplomats, staff of EU institutions and journalists.

The annual discharge for the agency had been postponed when reports about the potential involvement of Frontex in illegal pushbacks at the EU's external borders were published. The European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) investigation into fraud in EU agricultural payments in Slovakia confirms the need for a direct EU oversight over land grabbing and the misconduct of national authorities. Tomáš Zdechovský MEP, the EPP Group's Spokesman in Parliament's Budgetary Control Committee, said: “If national authorities do not act, the EU must. The conclusion of the OLAF investigation initiated by the EPP Group shows how the system of allocating EU agricultural funds worked during the Slovak Socialist governments in the past. The state was complicit with fraudsters receiving direct payments on land other than agricultural land or even illegally-obtained land. There must be no more such cases of injustice for those who really have the right to EU help.”

"While there are many current initiatives addressing mental health, we are still missing comprehensive EU strategy on Mental Health. As MEP Alliance for Mental Health, our long-term aim is to push Commission to propose such a strategy, taking into account the cross-sectoral impact of different policies on mental health. The approach of the Commission has been very hesitant but we clearly see the support of the member states and pressure from the Parliament so believe that soon we will also see development on the side of the Commission," says Tomas Zdechovský, co-chair of MEP Alliance for mental health.
